Thanks in no small part to Adobe, PDF is the de facto standard for electronic documents and forms exchange.
There are many advantages to sending documents in PDF format, for example if you need a document that can easily be viewed by anyone without having to pay for software to do so, or you need to send a document which cannot then be easily modified.
